Outdoor spaces create unique challenges and opportunities for lighting and sound design. BAV helped create this backyard oasis with mood lighting managed by a Sonos controller. This multi-function command center controls preset themes that the owner has specified according to their activities and the lighting system’s clock takes out the guesswork and ensures the landscape lights turn on at sunset and turn off promptly at 10 pm.
The same Sonos controller does double duty by running the home’s audio system. The owners have instant, wireless access to all their music in all their rooms without running back and forth. The songs are stored on a server inside their home that has virtually unlimited storage space. The homeowners enjoy music from their personal collection, Internet radio or other online music services. There is even a Sonos application for iPhone that enables your home’s system to be controlled completely through your phone.
Sound in the courtyard was created by installing multiple pairs of speakers and subwoofers in the landscaping which has since grown in and made this a very discrete installation. The sound evenly fills the space and it’s very hard to tell where the speakers are.
